Ekica

Our registered charity, Ekica Fundraising, founded in 2019, supports the growth of a primary school in a very underprivileged community in northernTanzania. Many children live in extreme poverty, often with only one parent or grandparent and no money. There is no welfare system or food banks, so families must fend for themselves.
The tableware items we have for sale have been made by women in the local community. The school also runs a tailoring project which empowers local women and young girls who have not been able to continue their education for a variety of reasons. The project teaches them a skill, whereby giving them the opportunity to be able to earn money to feed their families.
The beaded jewellery items are also made by local people, with beading being a popular Maasai craft.
The upcycled cotton bags are made by our Australian friend, who has also been to the school. She is a great supporter and fundraiser, as well as being a prolific sewer!
ALL funds raised are sent directly to the school. We have visited the school several times and personally know the school's director snd can vouch for her integrity. The charity has good controls in place regarding the request and remittance of funds to the school and always have evidence of where the money is spent.
The funds raised from any items purchased today will go directly to the school and be used towards the food and salary costs, which are the school's biggest budget challenges, despite the fact that the average annual salary for a teacher at the school is around £1,000 a year.
