Stour Valley Lions Club was formed in 1981 and during that time, we have been raising funds to support local good causes, as well as carrying out community service projects.

We are a group of ordinary men and women from all walks of life, who have one thing in common – to give something back to our local community, in the spirit of the Lions motto –

“We Serve” – and to have fun in the process.

So, where did it all begin?

The Association of Lions Clubs developed from an idea of Melvin Jones, a community-spirited Chicago insurance agent.

At its first Convention in October 1917, the Association was officially designated as ‘Lions Clubs’.

At that time, 22 Clubs were represented, all within the United States.

Gradually, the concept of Lionism has spread throughout the world, with clubs established in more than 180 countries.

The first Lions Club in Britain was formed in London in 1951 and now there are almost 1,000 clubs, across the UK and Ireland.

Lions Clubs are a global service organisation and we recently celebrated our Centenary.

The following are just a few examples of some of the better-known national and international projects and activities.
